throws from kicks

roundhose into a throw
in the early class on wednesday, we were taught how to go from a kick into a throw. hien admitted to me that these weren't the most practical moves, but i guess it's all about getting used to doing a throw from another technique. so the first technique was a front leg roucndhouse kick into a choke which you can then do a kind of armbar sweep, or if you're shorter, you might be able to drag their head and torso down and move into something else.
so first you do the front leg roundhouse kick (let's say right side kick) to the back of their leg (you must be in open position), but once you make contact you dont retract. instead you sink into the back of their knee so that it bends. by this time, you should be relatively close to your opponent. since you are so close, you can reach around their shoulder and neck with your right hand to get some kind of a choke on him. at the same time, your left hand should protect your body from attacks to your open chest.

counter to front-kick defense
this technique looks a lot like a stomach throw. the kick defense is from an "open stance", so if the attacker kicks with a left front kick, the defender will defend with a right soft block (like shoulder scooping thing, where you turn your hand from up to down) and then transfer to holding the leg with the left arm in the crook of the elbow. you will want to raise the arm up to off balance your opponent. i think this kick defense was explained more thoroughly in a previous post.

to do the counter, after your leg has been caught (after say, a left leg front kick), you grab onto their collar and your right leg will bend and make contact on their frontside, at the thighs, or at the ankle for a more "side sacrifice" type of throw. the left leg won't interfere with the throw, but the right leg will still probably want to guide the oppontent to across your body. the swing will be the same as with a stomach sacrifice throw. i have to remember to keep a round back and to swing so i dont end up falling straight on my back. it's a lot of fun to do otherwise.
the counter to this counter is to yank on the leg slightly so that they lose their momentum.
